Global Positioning System
Was developed and is operated by the U.S. Department of Defense. It is a satellite navigational system formed by 24 satellites orbiting the earth at approximately 12,000 miles above the surface and makes two complete orbits every 24 hours. This is used for navigation all over the world. The satellites are equipped with

that are precise to within a billionth of a second. Signal availability, inherent redundancy, and traceability makes GPS well suited as a
