The telecommunications industry faces new challenges as the circuit-based network meets the packet-based network.

The goal is to utilize the existing infrastructure for the converged network to meet the demand for new services that combine voice (including cellular) video and data communications.

Spectracom offers reliable solutions for network service operators and telecom equipment manufacturers to meet the challenges of the new network to support the legacy infrastructure along with new services and new technologies.

Timing is everything. Synchronization in the public switched telephone network (PSTN) is maintained by the Building Integrated Timing Supply (BITS). However, new services utilizing new technologies can be largely affected by frequency jitter and clock aberrations at the network edge.

Transport multiplexing schemes such as SONET, SDH, and HDSL has largely met the bandwidth needs of the consumer. However pointer adjustments in these digital systems can greatly effect the reliable operation of remote network elements such as remote switches, GR-303 DLCs, mobile telephone switching stations (MTSO), base stations, enterprise PBXs/routers, and other such aggregation devices to the PSTN.

Spectracom offers solutions for synchronizing, retiming and filtering remote network elements. If the precision of a GPS primary reference source (PRS) is needed, we provide stratum-1 synchronization and T1 or E1 timing to telecommunication network elements for service providers and enterprises.

Applications Include:

  • GSM base stations
  • Data communications
  • Cable TV and cable modem
  • TDM over IP
  • GPS synchronization
