Just as network synchronization has long been a critical component in delivering traditional wireline and wireless services, it is an important ally in transforming existing networks to support a new generation of services.
From the legacy public switched telephone network (PSTN) that is organized into a tightly synchronized (10 parts per trillion) structure to allow for the quality of service we have come to expect to leveraging packet-based networks and wireless for backhaul, the telecom industry has great challenges ahead.
