Spectracom’s Ethernet Time Server Model 9388 accepts an ASCII time code input over a secure RS-485 twisted pair connection (provided by a NetClock/GPS time server), to act as a stratum-1 NTP server via Ethernet for an isolated network. Or distribute many NTP servers across a large network for a resilient network time application by using the 9288 as a stratum-2 client/server.
Precision Time Protocol (PTP) offers higher accuracy synchronization over networks
While NTP is limited to accuracies on the order of 1 millisecond, PTP (IEEE-1588) can provide microsecond-level accuracy over LANs. Spectracom offers several PTP products including a PTP grandmaster clock, PTP slave/master clocks as a 1RU chassis, PCI express card, and LINUX software.
