Time Server Solutions for Security

Security Hardened Network Appliances

With an increasing concern about cyber security, critical network devices, such as time servers, need to be designed to be free from attacks from external and internal threats. NetClock time servers integrate best practices for security hardened network appliances including SSL/SSH encryption, logging, and user management. We commonly perform vulnerability scanning to validate the results of our security approach. Contact us with your industry-specific requirements so you can rest assured that the NetClock will enhance your network security not be an exception to it.

SAASM GPS Receiver Option

GPS is an indispensable tool for synchronizing military actions and other timing applications, thanks to the GPS system’s extremely accurate and wells-ynchronized atomic clocks. However, GPS transmissions are relatively low-power and vulnerable to jamming. They may also be spoofed, a hacking technique in which seemingly legitimate data is faked.

To counter these threats, the Joint Chiefs of Staff have chosen the Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) as the GPS security architecture. As of October 2006, all newly fielded Department of Defense (DoD) GPS systems must use SAASM-compliant Precise Positioning System (PPS) devices.

A secure GPS receiver is available for SAASM applications as is required under the 2003 Joint Chiefs of Staff Instruction: Master Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Plan (CJCSI 6130.01C: Enclosure E). Learn more about this DoD mandate by reading "Enclosure E" of the document.

Isolated LAN Segments

Networks requiring the utmost security are often disconnected from the outside world. A NetClock GPS network time server is an ideal solution to the problem of providing Legally Traceable Time® to such an isolated network. Spectracom even offers a cost-effective solution for enterprise infrastructures that include multiple isolated network or partially isolated sub-networks.
Here’s how it works: A single GPS-based NetClock time server (models 9383 or 9389) is used as the master clock for the enterprise. One or more model 9388 ethernet time servers are connected to the GPS time server’s precision timing signal through a secure RS-485 data bus over twisted pair up that maintains stratum-1 accuracy up to 4,000 feet. The signal can be daisy-chained to support a 9388 for every isolated LAN segment in your enterprise.

Testimonial

"Our order for a Spectracom NetClock NTP/time server was processed as quickly as possible, and was delivered in a timely manner, with thorough documentation.

I'm extremely pleased with this device’s performance, and ease of admin. We were synced with 9 satellites within a few minutes of bringing the unit online. I had also programmed the unit to use 3 NTP servers as backups, and as a way to test the system before the GPS antenna was installed.

Given the performance, backed by Spectracom's people, I definitely recommend this appliance."
