What it Means to You:

How Does it Work?
  • Stratum 0: GPS satellites or ACTS/ITU-R servers perform as Stratum 0 references
  • Stratum 1: NetClock locked to GPS or ACTS/ITU-R Modem operates as a Stratum 1 server
  • Stratum 2: NetClock or Ethernet Time Server as a client, requesting updates via Unicast from the Stratum 1 server
  • Stratum 3: Servers, such as a domain controller, perform as clients to the Stratum 2 server (Unicast)
  • Stratum 4: Workstations or servers, such as at the department level, perform as clients to the Stratum 3 server (this can be Unicast but is often Broadcast) …Up to Stratum 15

Introduction

Spectracom’s NetClock® products have supported NTPv2 and NTPv3 for years per RFC 1305, the Network Time Protocol Specification, Implementation and Analysis. The 9300 & 9200 Series NetClock also support NTPv4 in order to provide a standard method of synchronizing network devices.
