8219 WWVB Antenna System
WWVB Antenna System - Model 8219

Product Overview
The Spectracom WWVB Antenna System is designed for Spectracom WWVB receiver-based synchronization products to receive the 60 kHz time and frequency signal from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The WWVB antenna system is made up of the Loop Antenna, Model 8219, Antenna Preamplifier, Model 8207 and Surge Protector, Model MPO8455. Although we no longer manufacture WWVB receivers, we continue to support these products in the field with this replacement antenna system.
WWVB Antenna Preamplifier
Model 8207The WWVB Antenna Preamplifier, Model 8207 is a low-noise tuned 60 kHz line amplifier. It is connected to the antenna feed line with the input connected to the Antenna and output connected to the receiver.
The Preamplifier provides approximately 40dB of gain, increasing receiver sensitivity to 3.0 nanovolts and is powered by the receiver over the RG-58, 50-ohm coaxial cable. Cable lengths up to 1,500 feet are possible if care is taken to avoid routing the cable near noise sources.
Because of the high gain of the system, locate the Preamplifier a minimum of 10 feet from the receiver to prevent regeneration. The Antenna should be located at least 25 feet beyond the Preamplifier. The WWVB Antenna Preamplifier, Model 8207 is not weather-proof and must be installed indoors.
Because the WWVB Loop Antenna is a passive antenna, the Preamplifier is required in most instalations to boost the WWVB signal to a useable level. It may not be necessary in geographical areas near Fort Collins, Colorado.
WWVB Antenna Surge Protector
Model MPO8455For added protection against induced over-voltage transients caused by lighting, inductive switching or electrostatic discharge, Spectracom recommends the use of the WWVB Antenna Surge Protector, Model MPO8455. The Protector should be mounted at the cable entrance to the building and requires a good ground connection.
WWVB Loop Antenna
Model 8219The WWVB Loop Antenna, Model 8219 is a bi-directional passive loop antenna. When mounted outdoors it receives the WWVB signal and sends the signal to the WWVB Antenna Preamplifier, Model 8207 that is inserted in the antenna feed. The Loop Antenna includes a two-foot mast assembly and two hose clamps to simplify installation. An Antenna Mount for Flat Roof, Model 8213 is available for installations where vent
pipe mounting is not practical or desired.
An outdoor location is necessary to avoid metal in the building structure from shielding the Antenna from the signal. Install the Antenna away from local RF noise sources and nearby metal objects that could detune and degrade the Antenna performance.

Preamplifier Model 8207
Preamplifier Model 8207 is a low-noise tuned 60-kHz line amplifier used in the antenna feed line of all Spectracom WWVB receivers. It provides approximately 40 dB of gain between the antenna and the receiver, increasing receiver sensitivity to 3.0 nanovolts. Model 8207 is used with the Spectracom Loop Antenna Model 8219.
The preamplifier is connected into the antenna feed line with the input connected to the antenna and output connected to the receiver. Because of the high gain of the system, locate the preamplifier a minimum of 10 feet from the receiver to prevent regeneration. Locate the antenna at least 25 feet beyond the preamplifier. The Model 8207 is not weather-proof and must be installed indoors. |
