Spectracom exhibiting at NENA annual conference June 27-28; supports NENA VoIP initiatives

Spectracom is exhibiting June 27-28, 2005 at the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) Annual Conference and Trade Show, Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach, CA. Spectracom will be showing its latest v2.3 NetClock products, and supporting NENA initiatives such as Voice over IP (VOIP) 911 calls.
“This is a very critical time for PSAP managers who are handling increased demands including VoIP 911 callers,” said sales engineer Will Hickey III. “Spectracom now supports more than 4,000 PSAPs and First Responders, and many centers are now updating their infrastructure including NetClock products. In the next few months, with 911 centers processing all of the VoIP-based 911 calls per the recent FCC Order, having accurate records becomes even more important. Accurate logs and databases will assist 911 centers in processing and correlating calls with VoIP providers who will be offering E911 service to their customers.”
Spectracom is supporting NENA standards development in two other important areas: the trend toward increased user access security, such as SSL, in PSAP systems, and the introduction of a new ASCII time code format (Format 8) for devices that require this interface instead of a Network Time Protocol (NTP) Ethernet interface based on IP.
Spectracom, the Official Time Provider at the conference, will be in booth #340 with v2.3 of its NetClock products, available Q3 2005. NetClock v2.3 supports SSL and Format 8. In addition, NetClock Model 9183 users can choose from three oscillators, each of which provides holdover to keep the local time standard on time in the unlikely event that the GPS system is turned off for Homeland Defense reasons. In December, the U.S. government advised GPS users to implement safeguards in their systems. Another new system backup feature in v2.3 is an optional dial-out modem that serves as a backup to GPS.
NetClock products meet both the NENA Master Clock and the emergency service communication standards. NetClock products are used by public safety agencies throughout the U.S. Organizations such as 911 Dispatch, Police, Fire Rescue and EMS Departments, plus military and private campus dispatch operations. Applications include synchronization of Voice Recorders, Radio Consoles, CAD, ANI/ALI, Computer Networks and Digital/Analog Clocks.
