EQUIPMENT FOR RIT’S GOLISANO COLLEGE OF COMPUTING AND INFORMATION SCIENCES
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Spectracom Corporation has made a gift of its precision time measuring equipment to the Rochester Institute of Technology. The equipment will be used to provide leading-edge experiential learning for students in the Information Technology program.
The donated equipment includes a state-of-the-art Spectracom model 9183 NetClock® Time Server. A time server is used to synchronize networks. “A time synchronized network is established when all interconnected devices utilize the same time reference,” said Al Olderstein, VP of Sales and Marketing at Spectracom. “Time synchronization is important for today’s networks for efficient manageability, improved security, and enhanced reliability.” Spectracom products use the precision time signals from the global positioning system (GPS) to ensure accuracy to national and international timing standards.
According to Albert Simone, President of RIT, “Keeping the students supplied with up-to-date equipment is a constant challenge, but is made easier through our generous industry partners. The equipment is a perfect fit into our Wireless Technology lab.”
