Spectracom Announces High Performance Computing Synchronization Solution

Premier Solution Set Enables Microsecond Time Synchronization for High Frequency Trading

NEW YORK CITY — April 4, 2011 — Spectracom, a company of the Orolia Group (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO), today announces its solution suite for the highest performance computing applications at the 8th Annual High Performance Computing Linux Financial Markets conference. A unique combination of hardware and software provides IT directors and network managers from Wall Street and financial markets a solution to achieving microsecond-level time accuracy in a variety of real-world trading-network topologies. Today’s financial institutions, hedge funds and market-makers require superior synchronization to ensure low latency and enable precision trading decisions. Spectracom’s end-to-end network based solutions allow for precise time-stamping market data, implementation of trading algorithms, and managing network latencies to increase competitiveness of client networks.

Spectracom, as an industry veteran of sophisticated time and frequency products and systems, has supported a wide variety of secure synchronization applications in industrial, defense and financial markets. Applications in financial markets have evolved from compliance-based record-keeping to the network’s emergence as a strategic asset. Spectracom has coupled its best-in-class GPS network time servers and plug-in PC cards with new network synchronization capability such as industry standard NTP and emerging PTP (IEEE-1588) protocols, as well as precise clock management software for Linux in an integrated platform.

As the hardware improves and synchronization requirements get tighter, varying latencies due to normal mechanisms inside the application server become significant, and time-stamp accuracy non-determinant. Spectracom has teamed with FSMLabs, to offer TimeKeeper™ as an integral part of the solution to enable efficient, low latency, deterministic, time-transfer to the application without any configuration or modifications to the software environment. Combining TimeKeeper Linux synchronization software with Spectracom synchronization hardware solves the “last-mile” problem to provide superior clock and time-stamp accuracy from the traceable time source all the way through to the time-stamp call in Linux.

Spectracom President and CEO, Lisa Withers, comments, “We have partnered with FSMLabs to push the accuracy limits of synchronization and to prove that the combination of hardware and software achieves microsecond-level synchronization. Our collaboration has allowed each of our organizations to expand its depth of applications expertise.”

Victor Yodaiken, FMSLabs’ President said, “We have worked successfully with Spectracom in the past, and we know they understand time distribution in financial trading applications. It makes sense to provide our integrated hardware and software tools through Spectracom’s global organization, adding efficiencies in deployment to improve the customer experience.”

Spectracom’s solution also includes synchronization testing instruments to validate network performance.

All aspects of Spectracom’s synchronization solution for financial services are currently available for configuration for specific network deployments and include:
